New Funding for Cancer Systems Biology Research

The National Cancer Institute will provide $22.5 million a year to fund nine different Centers for Cancer Systems Biology (CCSB) that will serve as the core of a continued Integrative Cancer Biology Program (ICBP). Three major focus areas of CCSBs will be: (i) experimental systems biology; (ii) mathematical modeling and/or computer simulation (both focused on a common basic or translational research area); and (iii) educational and outreach efforts complementary to the goals of the center. Proposal intends to enhance the application of computational models and systems approaches to questions of human cancer across the various sectors of the cancer research spectrum, specifically in the areas of cancer biology, experimental therapeutics, early interventions, and cancer susceptibility.
